I’ve got a doppelblogger?

Hi, everyone! How are you all? So you may have seen or not that I published a blog post during this week but I decided to delete it because I didn’t really want to talk about it and immediately regretted writing it.

Now, something is annoying me and I don’t know if this should annoy me or not but this also annoys a few another bloggers so I feel like I should address it.

I get a lot of emails. Like a hundred a week from bloggers and some from companies who want me to write a blog post about their company which is fine I’m totally okay with that. But I’ve noticed something.

A lot of people have:

  1. The same layout to me- such as ‘ a little about me’ ย page, widgets which is okay but ya know, be a little creative even if you’re a new blogger and don’t know what the hell you’re doing. Think about your blog and make it your own.
  2. The same kinda name as me. I’ve had at least 5 bloggers who have commented with a VERY similar name to mine and VERY similar blog to mine. I’m not going to say what names but they are very similar and you will understand if you saw it. I wasn’t even the one to notice it but Elle who pointed it out the names and blogs, haha.
  3. The same kinda blog posts. I understand if I saw a blog with a few similar ideas as me (I’m not at all the Stephen Hawking of blogging) ย but some of these blogs literally have the same kinda titles and content. I mean, if you’re going to be a blogger, you have to write your own stuff. Right?

I’m flattered in some ways but in other ways, I’m kinda annoyed because of course, I’ve looked at blogs at the start when I started blogging because I enjoyed reading them and also to get inspired but I haven’t copied ideas.

When I was reading these very similar blogs, I kinda guessed these bloggers were very young like 11-12 who just discovered Zoella and decided to start out but have no idea what to do so they kinda copied a little.

So am I overreacting and need to take a chill pill or do you know how I feel?

Tell me in the comments,

Hideaway Girl xxx

  1. I don’t think that people are copying you, it’s just that there are a lot of bloggers out there, most of whom are fairly like-minded people. There are also a large amount of people who like similar things and most teenagers will find some things in common with each other. Therefore there is bound to be people who have similar blog names, similar ideas and posts talking about similar things. Unfortunately no one is special and everyone has something in common with someone else.

  2. I don’t think you’ve overreacted. There’s a very thin line between inspiration and copying, and sometimes, it’s very hard to tell the difference. A lot of people have been inspired by Zoella, and as much as I think that’s great, it’s never good to copy. If any new bloggers read this (plus your post because it’s amazing) then remember to make your blog original. Make it YOURS, not someone else’s.
If someone’s blog is so similar to yours that you’re thinking “hang on”, I think that you have every right to be a little concerned. You have worked so hard on your blog and as much as I get wanting to find inspiration and being stuck for ideas, basing it off someone else’s blog isn’t flattery. Now you’ve got me thinking: have people done a similar thing to me?
Thanks for addressing this; it needed to be said. Sorry for the hugely long comment!

  3. i agree with elm it’s a line that’d hard to define. i’ve been a little annoyed by some ideas which are quite similar to mine but i don’t say anything cuz i don’t wanna jump to conclusions like maybe they just had a similar idea. idk it’s hard but i don’t think there’s anything wrong with being annoyed, i would be too

  4. That’s a little annoying. Especially when you have put hard work into your writing. But you are unique, and your content is your content. You are inspiring people. They will just have to grow into themselves and then their writing will gradually become more individual maybe? ๐Ÿ’•

      1. Yea I remember often looking at other bloggers when I first started ๐Ÿ’•also. I don’t know if my comments on your previous post went through, but I just wanted to make sure you are making sure you are not damaging yourself with your diet. Very honestly, dieting/ focussing on calories is one of the most dangerous and horrible things you could do to yourself. Please please make sure you are eating enough sweetie. Because it’s a really shitty and tiring black hole to fall into and I would never want that for you. You are a beautiful person, and you should not be going through the pain of that. It is scary and becomes quickly addicting and damaging. And I promise you, that pain is not worth it. Comparing yourself to others is also horrible, and I do it too. But just remember we are all so different and beautiful because we are different. Please be careful lovely, and stay healthy โค

  5. I think there’s a line between copying and being inspired. For me, I just look for inspiration from other bloggers but not copy them. I think it’s just unfair because you really put a lot of work into the stuff you’ve been doing and then another guy just copies all of that

  7. hi! i’m new to blogging and this app/site. i actually just wanted to say that i had another account before this one (i made it like not even 15 minutes ago) and i came across your account(which i am in love with) i didn’t realise we literally had a very similar name and i freaked out because i don’t want to come off as copying because that’s not something i do. i understand what you’re saying in this post (even though it’s from ages ago, is just reading most of your posts heh) i would hate if someone was copying me and my style so i get that you’re annoyed. and like you said it probably is 11-12 year olds but hey, they’re probably not even going to continue blogging in a few months but who knows. i’d just say, you should ignore them and just keep blogging because honestly your blogs are amazing and i, and a lot more people love them:)

  8. I don’t think you overreacted. That was a positively natural feeling and reaction. Of course, what I would suggest is screaming at them until you’re hoarse and slapping them (okay…that doesn’t sound right. Also, violent, much?) or something gentler xD
